THE BOUQUET
In The Bouquet, Alberto León portrays a bride throwing her bouquet in profile, frozen in that festive gesture that invites the public to participate actively, catching or touching the flowers. But beyond the traditional celebration, the figure of the woman introduces elements that break with convention: she wears a red blindfold, matching Converse sneakers, and a smile on her face.
León combines the symbolic and the everyday to talk about hope, chance, and perhaps a certain voluntary blindness towards the future. The blindfold does not suggest violence, but a cheerful and carefree leap into the void, reinforced by the casual footwear. As in many of his works, León turns a recognizable scene into a game between the ironic and the affectionate, where beauty coexists with a gentle discomfort.
