THE EMIGRANT
This piece is a tribute to the massive Canarian emigration in the mid-20th century, seeking to overcome poor economic circumstances.
They carried all their youth, their hopes, their memories, and roots as luggage.
They crossed the Atlantic with the courage and effort that this entails, leaving behind all their loved ones.
Many villages were left empty, but with their struggle and effort, they contributed to an economic boost on the islands.
They provided the Atlantic cultural character that we currently have and of which I am tremendously proud.
For all of them and their families (including mine) my deepest gratitude, respect, and admiration.
